Travel bookings for the Fiji Islands are again on the rise, as travellers from around the world regain their confidence in Fiji as a fantastic tropical holiday destination. This followed a period of cancellations during December as holidaymakers were scared off from visiting Fiji as a result of their government travel warnings advising safety problems following the military take over of the Government in Fiji. The large amount of cancellations that occurred during December meant that the Fiji resorts and hotels were forced to lay off their local staff, or put them on fewer hours.
Travellers continued to visit Fiji during December and into the New Year, and for them there were no visible signs of the government takeover except for a few non-disruptive roadblocks on entrances to the major population centres. Since most tourism destinations in Fiji are on the outer islands rather than the main population centres, anyway, this meant that the average traveller generally saw no signs at all of any change in business.
Coupled with some fantastic deals on accommodation and airline ticketing in and out of Fiji, tourism numbers are increasing as many take advantage of the cost savings to be had.
